Today's earthquake near Circleville is a good reminder to prepare. Check out http://bereadyutah.gov for tips to make a plan and get a kit.
Be Ready Utah is a campaign driven by the Department of Public Safety, Division of Emergency Management. We put all our efforts towards educating Utahns about what to do in any type of disaster.
Make A Plan: Be sure to plan in advance what you and your family will do in an emergency situation. Have a plan ready to shelter in place, a plan to get away and also be educated in your local school emergency plans and at your work. It would be wise to develop a family communications plan, where each member will call, e-mail, or text the same relative in an emergency.
Get A Kit: Two different kits will be needed, one for if you'll be sheltering in place and the other a more lightweight smaller version that you can take with you. Make sure that your kit can sustain you for at least three days. Every family member should have their own kit.
Be Informed: Try to educate yourself about potential threats in your area. Are you susceptible to floods, fires or chemical leaks? Find more information at www.bereadyutah.gov
Get Involved: Be involved in preparing your community for the worst. Join a volunteer agency such as Citizen Corps. citizencorps.utah.gov
